Active Image                                                          “It was outrageous and disrespectful!”

I think any true Cavalier fan can agree with this sentiment after seeing the “VT” carved into the basketball court on national television. It is only the first season that the cavaliers have been able to enjoy the new basketball facilities, yet it didn’t take long for something to go wrong.

A “VT” logo was found carved on the court during the game, bringing memories of November 2005 when the “VT” logo was found spray painted on the football field before a game. I am not here to tell you who did it, but I will give you some clues on who could have done it so that you can form your own assumptions.

Before I point out the possible culprits, I will tell you more about this carving. Thanks to the media, people formed misconceptions regarding how big the carving is and how it was made. The “VT” logo is no larger than a quarter and could have been done with a key, not a professional tool. In addition, there is no finish over the engraving. This can mean only one thing—the carving has not been there for the entire season or before the opening of the arena. I cannot tell you when it was made, but I can say without a doubt that it was recent.
So who did it? People will point the finger at any Tech fan, Tech alumni or student, Tech player or Cavalier hater. After all, the logo is showing the pride that is felt for Virginia Tech, or the disrespect that the culprit feels towards us.
The workers at the John Paul Jones Arena are not hired based on their beliefs or whether they go to UVA. Therefore, it is possible that anyone who works at the arena could have done it when no one was watching. This seems very unlikely, but could be possible in such a large arena.
Virginia Tech basketball players and all visiting teams are allowed to practice on the court before game day, leaving them with plenty of alone time to have committed such a deed.
The basketball court has to be dismantled for shows and concerts at the arena, and it has to be reassembled before any basketball game. Before you start assuming that the people assembling the court are the guilty ones, let me tell you about these people. They come in the morning before the game. They are closely watched by a couple of supervisors from the Athletics Department. Most importantly, they are hippies who are all about peace and love, and could care less about such a ‘trivial’ rivalry between our schools.
Finally, we have the instigators--the wood that makes the fire burn--the media. Before you throw this ‘crazy’ idea out the window, hear me out. The media has its own press interview room, but they are often seen hanging out on the corner of the court where the “VT” engraving was found. How the engraving was found is a mystery--the logo was so small it is hard to see from a standing position and with the extra glare from the arena lights.
These are the possible culprits. Now it is up to you to decide who might have done it

Quotation it is up to you to decide who might have done it Quotation
. Feel free to use the message boards to question each other and me over who YOU think did it. But I will leave you with this last personal comment: the “VT” logo was not found by luck...whoever found it had to know about it in advance.
