Drew Sutton breaks down the Heisman race after week 5, Fanatic style.

After a week of several major upsets, the Heisman race has been shaken up. Though my five favorites remain the same, the order in which they appear is significantly different.

Chase Daniel, Missouri QB:

In a week where multiple Heisman candidates’ teams suffered losses, Daniel remains the frontrunner after having Saturday off. Daniel has picked apart opposing defenses thus far, throwing for 1412 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with just 1 interception. Daniel and his Tigers face Big 12 North rival Nebraska in Lincoln next Saturday. Look for Daniel to put up huge numbers.

Sam Bradford, Oklahoma QB:

Bradford leaps towards the front of the pack after another impressive performance in Oklahoma’s dominating win against TCU. Bradford threw for 408 yards and 4 touchdowns, making a good defense look bad. So far this season Bradford has thrown for 1290 yards and 16 touchdowns with just two interceptions. The Sooners face Baylor next week, so another 400 yard game may be in Bradford’s future.

Tim Tebow, Florida QB:

Tebow had his best statistical performance of the season, but his team’s result is what hurts him the most. Tebow threw for 319 yards and 1 touchdown and added 2 more scores on the ground in Florida’s 31-30 loss to Mississippi State. On the season Tebow has thrown for 808 yards and 6 touchdowns and rushed for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tebow and the Gators must right the ship next week against Arkansas in Fayetteville if he is to remain in the Heisman race.

Mark Sanchez, USC QB:

Much like Tebow, Sanchez put up solid numbers last Thursday against Oregon State, but the stunning upset hurts his chances. Sanchez threw for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns with an interception against the Beavers, but he couldn’t engineer a comeback victory for the Trojans. Sanchez has thrown for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns with 3 interceptions so far this season. Look for Sanchez and USC to rebound next Saturday when Oregon visits the Coliseum.

Knowshon Moreno, Georgia RB:

Moreno had a disappointing performance against a stingy Alabama defense, running for just 34 yards and a touchdown on just 9 carries in Georgia’s 41-30 loss to the Crimson Tide. Moreno didn’t have the kind of game the Bulldogs needed from him to win in the matchup of top 10 SEC opponents. On the season Moreno has rushed for 489 yards and 10 touchdowns with 110 receiving yards. Georgia is off next week, so look for Moreno to bounce back October 11 against Tennessee.
